Your engine oil becomes contaminated with nano particles of harmful ferrous metal. The human eye can only see a particle of 40microns or larger and an oil filter can only remove particles of larger than 35 microns. The only way to remove metal particles smaller than 35microns is with strong magnetism that can withstand high temperatures - and this drain plug does that for you.
