Installation Instructions
1. Disconnect and insulate the battery ground lead (IMPORTANT)
2. Install TDC pin to lock the flywheel to the clutch housing (EME Part #
BMW-TDCpin)3. Replace the hall sensor reinstalling the pully / hall trigger
(refer to BMW repair manual)
4. Connect the battery ground lead
5. Switch on the ignition but do not start the engine
6. Set the hall-effect timing position using a hall tester Part # EDL-MiniHT-R137 - LED must be triggered at TDC
7. Open the throttle fully twice - this will synchronize the motronic control unit with the new hall sensor
Refer to "Additional Photos" for connector plug configuration in comparison to "R277"
The total swing in timing on the R850, R1100, and R1150 is 5°, the bike will start and run well at either end of the slotted hole.
Important Installation Note: There is a two prong tab on the alternator pulley that engages with the groove on the crankshaft. This attachment should be bonded when torqueing the pulley bolt to avoid damage to the hall effect ignition sensor.
Verify that your rotor pulley is aligned correctly with the crankshaft before installing the hall effect sensor.
If the installation of the sensor is done with the rotor misaligned you could destroy the sensor, when attempting start it.
Take care not to bend the locating tab on the rotor.
Ensure the rotor is properly located back into the slot on the end of the crank shaft.
